In this week’s minisode we discuss a family murder in Oranjeville, the conviction of baby Orderick Lucas’ murderer, and the escape from custody of Mohammed Nasir, who is accused of murdering his wife and 8-month-old baby.
Oranjeville Family Murders
The bodies of 80-year-old Johannes Van Vuuren and 58-year-old Dorothia Van Staden were discovered in Oranjeville, by a relative of Van Staden
Along with the bodies, it was discovered the house had been ransacked, with several household items including TVs and computers missing. A gold BMW 3 series was also missing from the premises.
In addition to Van Staden’s wife being murdered, his stepdaughter, her husband and their 10-year-old daughter, who all live in the same house, were missing.
According to the South African Police Service, a husband and wife in their mid-thirties were arrested in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape. That’s both the mother and grandfather of one of the accused.
Orderick Lucas
One year old little Orderick Lucas never stood a chance.
He was the son of Davidine Lucas – Melvin Volkwyn’s friend – and Kounkou Dziendelet.
Davidine’s parents, Cornelia Scheepers and Devan Scheepers were the legal guardians of Orderick and his two siblings following an order of the Children’s Court on 8 January 2019. Although expressly forbidden by the court order, the children occasionally spent weekends with Davedine instead of being with their grandparents.
The boy went missing on 25 March 2019, but was only reported missing on 28 March. His body was found on 2 April in a stormwater drain in Kleinvlei.
Hairdresser Melvin Volwkyn from Eerste River, Cape Town, was convicted of the murder of one-year-old Orderick on August 25 and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.
Escape of Mohammed Nassir
A 29-year-old man, Mohammed Nasir, accused of murdering his partner Chantelle Ash and baby Tasneem has escaped from police custody in Limpopo.
It’s understood Nasir, his partner Chantelle Ester Ash (20) and their daughter Tasneem Isha ( 9 months) were dropped off at a game lodge along the R518 road between Mokopane and Marken road, near Masodi village by a grey unknown motor vehicle.
The trio rented a room for overnight accommodation without providing their personal information with the intention of checking out the next day.
The receptionist went to check on the visitors the next morning and made the grim discovery. The deceased were found Thursday 14 January 2021, strangled with their hands tied from the back and their bodies being in a state of decomposition.
