Spotlight Minisode 12 – Clodine Nuys, Tazne van Wyk, Kavitha Nerputh and Willem Breytenbach

I’ll start with one of the most recent crimes in the news this week. On Tuesday the 11th of February 22-year-old Clodine Nuys went to work at the Jonkersberg Library in George where she was one of the librarians. When Clodine didn’t return home in the afternoon her family became worried and along with neighbours started looking for her including searching the library. They were unable to find her and reported her missing. Police launched a search immediately.

One of the most talked-about cases that has emerged this week has been the kidnapping of eight-year- old Tazne van Wyk. Tazne went missing on Friday the 7th of February went she went to a shop which is allegedly 8 steps away from her house in Connaught Estate, Elsies River. Tazne made it to the shop where she was sold an ice lolly but didn’t make it back home.

Another very strange and tragic case that’s recently made headlines is the murder of Pietermaritzburg businesswoman and socialite Kavitha Nerputh. 41-year-old Kavitha was well-known and well-loved in Pietermaritzburg. She ran a few different businesses and hit the headlines in 2017 when she threw her four-year-old daughter a R 100 000 carnival themed birthday party. Kavitha was found deceased on the 20th of January.

Willem Breytenbach aka Jimmy from Deon Wigget’s podcast My Only Story which detailed sexual abuse allegations against the former journalist and teacher has had an additional four charges added to his charge sheet. He was arrested in December after survivor Deon Wigget used the podcast as a platform to share the sexual assault he had suffered at Breytenbach’s hands as a teenager.
