Last Seen Alive released at cinemas nationwide in South Africa on the 16th of June 2022 and many South Africans made it their Youth Day outing.
The Husband Did It
The movie stars Gerard Butler as Will Spann and Jaimie Alexander as his wife, Lisa, and we quickly gather from their interactions that their relationship is on rocky ground and Will was headed to Lisa’s parents house to drop her off there—for good. So when Will pulls into a service station on the way, and Lisa suddenly vanishes, if you’ve ever listened to even a single true crime podcast, you know what the next question is going to be — did the husband do it?
When Will reports his wife as missing, that is precisely the question Russell Hornsby, who plays Detective Paterson, asks too.
The Dark Underbelly
Spann is not willing to go down as anyone’s patsy, though, and he sets out to find his wife himself. He will soon discover that small towns have big secrets and the one his wife has just disappeared in has a criminal underbelly that’s about to suck him right in.
When he discovers CCTV footage of his wife talking to an unidentified man at the service station, though, he has to wonder if her past indiscretions have come back to haunt them both.
On The Run
With local authorities certain that he is their prime suspect, Spann goes on the run, but is he fleeing from the truth or towards it? And will he find the answers he seeks before it’s too late?
The movie, written by Marc Frydman and directed by Brian Goodman, is a must-see for thriller fans, and although the resounding response from Butler fans was that the dishy Scot could not have harmed a hair on his wife’s head, we’ll just have to watch the movie to find out.
