When an 81-year-old resident of Paradyskloof is found brutally murdered in her home, it’s clear that robbery was the motive, but it seems to investigators that this may not have been a random home invasion and the perpetrator is disturbingly close to home.
Marie Verwey, a cancer survivor walked with assistance, battled to get around was stabbed 62 times at the Villa Merwe guest house on February 16, 2017 and robbed of over R700 000 in jewellery as well as personal items, including a digital camera.
The four accused, Nicoleze Geldenhuys, the homecare nurse together with Romeo Hendricks, Enrico Malherbe and Andre Coetzee all received lengthy sentences.
