In 1999, 14 year old Valencia Farmer went out with friends and never came home.
She was stabbed 42 times and gang-raped in a derelict house near her Eerste River house on Sunday and left for dead.
Valencia died in the Tygerberg Hospital about a day after she survived the attack in a derelict house in Eucalyptus Street. Residents found her, naked and covered in blood, in the street outside the house. Angry residents later demolished the house with its blood-spattered walls.
Her brutal rape and murder would be one of the first in a wave of violence against women in the Western Cape that seemed inextricably linked to gang culture.
