The new action film, Indemnity, is releasing in cinemas nationwide on the 13th of May and it is set to become the jewel in the crown of the South African action movie industry.
Indemnity
The movie stars a proudly South African cast with Jarrid Geduld in the lead and Nicole Fortuin and Gail Mabalane as co-stars.
When a traumatised ex-firefighter in Cape Town wakes up next to his wife’s murdered body, he has no recollection of what transpired. He’s soon labelled as the prime suspect, and goes on the run, but it’s not just a notorious police chief that’s hunting him. There’s also an unknown third party hot on his tail. He must now fight for his life and figure out who killed his wife before a conspiracy changes the course of a nation forever.
Africa’s Biggest Action Movie
Indemnity is being billed as the biggest action movie in South African history in terms of action sequences, and this record may well be true for the entire continent too.
Lead actor, Jarrid Geduld, spent three months training with professional stuntmen to perform all of his own action sequences in the movie. The Stunt Team SA (Vernon Willems and Grant Powell) were integral in producing these action scenes, drawing on their experiences in making movies like Mad Max, Tomb Raider, Bulletproof 2, and Inside Man.
Indemnity also holds the record for the movie stunt performed at the greatest height in South Africa, and possibly Africa, with the 21-storey daring dangle of Geduld out of a window.
Diversity & Lekker Locals
Indemnity is also special in its diverse performer line-up with the cast being made up almost entirely of people of colour, and all South Africans. South African Travis Taute wrote the script and directed the film.
This phenomenal project was almost derailed when the global pandemic hit while they were filming, but the crew and cast pushed through. They were last to be filming when the shutdown happened and the first to start up again under the COVID safety protocols. This would also help set a benchmark for other film projects in these unprecedented times.
The buzz for the release of this movie has been steadily building, and it is one that has to be seen on the big screen to be fully appreciated. So get your popcorn and slushie and celebrate this milestone in South African film with the cast of Indemnity.
